Research Fellowship for Dr. Lion König
Dr. Lion König has been awarded a research fellowship by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Council, DFG) to undertake postdoctoral research at Oxford University. He will be based at the Asian Studies Centre at St. Antony’s College, Oxford for a period of two years to work on nation-building in South Asia. At Oxford, he will be mentored by Dr. Faisal Devji, Director of the Asian Studies Programme.
Obituary for Pratibha Khanal Tamang

The SAI is united in grief over the loss of Pratibha Khanal Tamang (26.01.1983), who passed away at the age of 33 years on Easter Sunday in Königsfeld (Schwarzwald). She studied Political Science and History at the South Asia Institute and from 2008 to 2014, she headed the SAI branch office in Kathmandu.

Dr. Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels (Head of the Department Cultural and Religious History of South Asia at the South Asia Institute) wrote an obituary. A memorial ceremony will take place in Königsfeld on 8 April 2016 at 5 p.m.

Lion König & Bidisha Chaudhuri: Politics of the Other in India and China: Western Concepts in Non-Western Contexts"
The book “Politics of the Other in India and China: Western Concepts in Non-Western Contexts”, edited by Lion König (Associate Researcher of the SAI) and Bidisha Chaudhuri (Assistant Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and an Alumna of the Department of Political Science of the SAI), has been published by Routledge, London in February 2016. Members and friends of the South Asia Institute have signed a declaration against the petition to remove Professor Sheldon Pollock from the General Editorship of the Murty Classical Library of India published by Harvard University Press.
