Prof. Hermann Kulke honoured with Padma Shree Award
On this year's Republic Day, eminent German Indologist and Historian Prof. Dr. Hermann Kulke has been awarded the Padma Shree Prize, which is enowed by the Indian Government for outstanding contributions in various spheres of activity including the Arts, Education, Literature, Science, Medicine, Sports, Industry, social service and public life.
Prof. Dr. Kulke is professor emeritus at the historical seminar of the University of Kiel, Germany. He has taught and researched at the South Asia Institute in Heidelberg for 21 years, from 1967 to 1988, and contributed to landmark research projects like the Orissa Project.
Prof. Kulke has directed the SAI branch office in New Delhi in 1978/79.
