This B.A. Programme aims to impart a broad exposure to the cultural and religious history of South Asia together with mastering the required methodological and linguistic skills for a potent encounter with this region. The focus, therefore, is on the one hand to intensively learn Sanskrit, which opens up a vast treasure of literary sources, and on the other hand to familiarize oneself with other non-written sources of culture and develop the competence to correlate the two. The M.A. Programme is designed to facilitate a focussed study of the Cultural and Religious History of South Asia (Classical Indology) together with a dedicated training in the philological and ethno-indological approaches for further research purposes. More..
Magister and PhD "Classical Indology"
Classical indology researches on the texts in old and middle-indo languages (Vedic, Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit) and in some singular cases with the older levels of languages of more modern indian languages. Poems, cites and prose of old indian priest texts, the veda, are written in the vedic language, connected to the old iranian languages.
Those, who are admitted in the outgoing Magister programme, please note that the last chance of final examinations is in winterterm 2016/17 (registration latest in Januar 2016).
