Perspectives on Festivity

This project aims at developing new interdisciplinary approaches for the study of festivity, on the basis of concrete case studies and of the experience of the scholars involved.

About the project
The fields to be explored within the project are for example:

  • the interrelation of mythology and history, questions regarding actors participation and agency
  • the workings of festivity in situations of cultural flux and mobility
  • religious and national (or group specific) agenda
  • festival as performed in space and time
  • festivity as a performative genre (or as a mixture or overlap of several performative genres)
  • festivity as a source of conflict and reconciliation
  • festivity as focal point for economic and ritual activities
  • festivity as an event that appeals to the senses
